Visual Summary - Met Ball 2012

Met Ball. What is it?

It's a Costume Institute Gala and it is the fashion industry big night. People and celebrities come dressed to impress.

So scroll down for some glitz and glamour.

Carey Mulligan in Prada, she looks like she just stepped off a glam sci-fi movie

Jessica Alba in Michael Kors, gold Grecian gown, a tad too much I think or I've seen it before.

Beyonce in Givenchy in the dress that everybody is talking about. Figure-hugging, flesh-coloured fabric and a purple tail. A mermaid and spiderwoman mixed in one.

Diane Kruger in Prada. On the theme of purple tail, this one has feathers on it. What do you think, do they feathers look good?

Alexa Chung in Marc Jacobs, she is just a little underdressed compared to everyone else. Quirky but not so dress appropriate for this big event.

Leighton in Marchesa, Queen B in an overwhelming dress. Her hair almost matches the colour of the dress.

Christina Ricci in Thakoon. She is in a bold dress. The bow is a big statement, the fan in the front is a big statement. I know this might be too much for some, but I LOVE this dress. Soft pastels with some sparkles and black. Love it.

Fashion Palette 2012

I was lucky enough to get double passes for the 2 day events.

The first show that I went along to was Bettina Liano (I apologise that I haven't been able to upload my photos from the shows as yet), she is the denim queen but most of the outfits were misses. One reminded me on being a milk maid, chewing on a straw (so it wasn't classy) and others were really elegant, fine detail, soft in colour, just perfect for Spring and Summer. But most outfits were misses, very 80s, dated. I wouldn't buy her new pieces and if you really like the 80s style of denim on denim (so head to toe denim) just raid your closet (it looks exactly the same).

Next was Provacator who's clothes I wasn't really sure you could wear out into public. The women looked really masculine and none of the clothes were fitted. The colour palette was black, black and more black and here I was thinking that it was a Spring and Summer fashion show, clearly I was wrong.

After a few other fashion shows, Lilyhart was a winner. Beautiful prints in beautiful colours and beautifully designed dresses and clothing for women. She understands how to make people look good.

Overall it was a great Friday arvo and Saturday. It was a great experience seeing all of the shows. Despite, shows being cancelled or running 40mins late, the highlight was the makeup by Nicola Johnson and Lilyhart. The trends I saw were lots of black and lots of dark colours for Provacator for Spring/Summer, denim on denim for Bettina Liano, lots of glitter and shine for Sistar Shoes and pretty prints for Lilyhart.

And the highlight for the whole event was the makeup artist, beautiful work Nicola Johnson.

Aussie Jersey Shore

I must admit, I've watched three reasons of the Jersey Shore and I was addicted but now not so much, since it's the same drama and the same annoying people doing the same predictable stuff.

So it's boring.

But I have read that there is an Aussie version of MTV's Jersey Shore coming and it is already in production or filming at least.

So can you guess where they are filming the Aussie version?

Yep, haha where else but the Sutherland Shire?? Where all of the party animals are at. (If you were thinking the Hills, then you couldn't be more wrong)

Will you be watching?

Soon to be seen on Channel Ten.

Winner of Holland's Top Model

I wanted to share with you, the winner of Holland's Next Top Model was branded as too fat, even though (between you and me and the rest of the population) she isn't.

Part of her prize was a contract with the modelling agency, however, they refused to pay or represent her. The reason, 'you are too fat'.

So you be the judge.

Controversy ... Ananda Marchildon.

And by the way, she sued the modelling agency and won!

Myer Autumn/Winter Launch

Jen Hawkins, face of Myer opened the Myer Autumn Winter 2012 fashion parade.

Some are unwearable by you and I, some look distorted even on the models and some are beautiful.

See below for recap.

Yeojin  Bae, nude tone, be careful if you have pale skin, this will wash you out. This fitting looks a little strange on Ms Hawkins as well, around the bust and hips.

Arthur Galan, a statement jacket with a statement dress. It's always best to only wear one statement piece so it not over the top.

Magdelena, simple dress but a weird cut. Lovely colour which would suit most people.

Wayne Cooper, dubbed by the fashion industry as a fashion designer who doesn't actually designs his clothes but rather takes people's ideas. Anyway, this range is on par here, Red hot and Elegant Black. I am buying it.

Jayson has done it again. Elegant fitting and his ability in understanding a woman's shape. Amazing! And of course the beautiful Jess Hart.

 And here is another shot.

Until next time.

Dessert Galore Recipes

I want to share with you some of the best looking and delicious desserts.

Boy oh Boy!

Doesn't this look so delicious??

Perfect for a summer treat.

ice_cream_sandwiches_16mea8l-16mea8n

Ingredients
24 Arnott’s Iced VoVo biscuits (1 and 1/2 x 250g packets)
1/2 x 250g punnet strawberries
2 tblsps strawberry conserve
1 and 1/2 tsps lemon juice
1/2 x 1 litre tub vanilla ice-cream
1/2 cup mini marshmallows
Pink food colouring, to tint

Method
1 Lightly grease a deep 19cm square cake pan. Line the base and sides with baking paper, extending paper 5cm above pan edges.
2 Arrange half the biscuits, decorated-side facing up, over the base of prepared pan, leaving a small space between biscuits.
3 Place strawberries, conserve and juice in a food processor. Process until smooth. Strain through a fine sieve to remove seeds.
4 Place ice-cream in a large bowl. Stand at room temperature until slightly softened. Beat with a wooden spoon until smooth. Stir in strawberry mixture and marshmallows. Tint pink with food colouring. Pour over biscuits in pan. Top with remaining biscuits, decorated-side facing upwards. Cover with plastic wrap. Freeze overnight, or until firm.
5 To serve, lift slice from pan, transfer to a serving plate. Stand for 5 minutes to soften slightly. Cut into 12 slices.

 Easter Cupcakes 11

Since Easter is right around the corner, it's only fitting that we start baking special Easter treats.

This recipe and idea is so cute and I would share this with my family and friends.

What you'll need:

9 large eggs (Only one will get used in the cake. The rest are just used for the shells. I'm going to post a fantastic French toast recipe soon that used up six of the eggs.)

1/2 Cup flour

1/4 tsp baking powder

1/8 tsp baking soda

a pinch of salt

1/2 Cup sugar

1/4 Cup unsalted butter, room temperature

1/2 tsp lemon extract

1/4 Cup sour cream

Prepare the eggs

Carefully poke a small hole in the top of each egg. I found that the easiest way to do this was to use the tip of a corkscrew bottle opener.

Once you have poked a tiny hole, peel back the edges of the hole to expand it a bit. The holes need to be large enough to fit the tip of a piping bag inside. You can always make the hole larger when you are ready to pipe so err on the smaller side during this step.

Turn the egg upside-down and dump out the contents. Keep the contents of one egg separate to use in the cake recipe. If you plan on using the other eggs for baking, it might be helpful to store them in small plastic containers in groups of two (otherwise it will be hard for you to later tell how much of your big bowl is two eggs). You may wonder why there is a thermometer in the photo. I used the tip of the thermometer to help get all of the egg out of the shell.

Rinse the insides of the eggs out thoroughly over the sink. Then, immerse them in saltwater for thirty minutes.

Rinse the egg shells in cold water and lay the eggs hole side down on a paper towel to dry.

Prepare the cake mix

Mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a medium-sized bowl and set aside.

In a large bowl, mix one egg and sugar until light and creamy.

Add the butter and lemon extract and mix until fully integrated.

Mix in the dry ingredients until just combined.

Add the sour cream and mix until smooth.

Easter Cupcakes 08

Assembly

Place the prepared egg shells into a cupcake tin. Use aluminum foil to help them stand upright.

Load the batter into a piping bag fitted with a large round tip. Make sure that the tip can fit all of the way inside of the egg hole. If it can't, expand the hole a little bit at a time until it fits. Fill your eggs about 3/4 full with batter. This is the tricky part. If you underfill the eggs, you won't have a complete cake egg inside when you crack them after baking. If you overfill the eggs, cake will overflow out of the egg during baking.

I found that it was best to let the cake overflow out of the top of the egg and then simply pick it off (eat it) and clean the shell with a damp towel before serving.

Bake the eggs at 350 F (180 C) for 23 minutes.

Dove Nourishing Hair Oil

When I first saw oil, I imagined putting olive oil in my hair and how it was going to be a nightmare and how heavy it will make my hair but it turned out to be the opposite.

Yes, it still felt like an oil but it was lightweight and it make my hair really soft and silky.

It felt good.

I love how it’s also so compact so I can stick it in my handbag for an emergency frizz or dryness issues during the day.

And it smells lovely.

V Day 2012

So for the singletons, being single doesn't mena you are without love or loveless, you can still celebrate the idea of love. For example, writing a V Day car to a friend who has been heartbroken or mum because you know you've been a terrible cow and she deserves some love.

If you need help to express your feelings to your special loved one, perhaps the below could help:

At Strand Arcade, Pitt St Mall, Sydney CBD

Share the love this Valentine's Day with the help of Sydney's top writers including Shelly Horton Editor-At-Large of S in the Sun Herald, Sydney Confidential journalist Joel Christie at the Daily Telegraph and the stylish editors of fashion blog Breakfast With Audrey! Let them help you write the perfect prose for your free personalised Valentine's Day card, plus visit our photobooth and receive a complimentary Haigh's heart chocolate!

Date & Time:

12-2pm, 13th February with Shelly Horton and Joel Christie

12-2pm, 14th February with Pip Dalton and Natasha Williams of Breakfast With Audrey

For those who have a special someone, head down to the photobooth at lunch and I will see you there for some happy snapping!

Happy V Day!

2012's New TV Hit Shows

So it's been awhile and I do have to apologise for my laziness but I have had a lot of worries happening. Anyway, I thought I might give you a preview of a couple of my favourite tv shows for this year and you MUST watch it.

To start and perhaps my favourite is a new tv show called Revenge

This tv show is about a girl who's father was framed for a terroist act in the States and this act killed hundreds on a plane. She find this out later in her teens once she's out of juvie and she's pissed. Real pissed.

But she has help, firstly her father left her with a handsome fund and a friend who is loyal to her father helps her to carry out carefully planned events to destroy the lives of those that joined together to frame her father.

But there are plenty of hiccups along the way. A mentally ill friend of her pretend boyfriend tries to kill her and her juvie friend who is a murderer comes and visits her.

This show is exciting, it has the glamour of Gossip Girl but of course without the brattiness and the pointless evil schemes of Blair and Chuck and it's cleverly written and played out.

Now don't think I am encouraging revenge because I am not. This shows makes you think about what you would do instead of Amanda/Emily.

But I do support justice, just not that twisted.

See on on Channel 7 soon.

Once Upon A Time

If you like fairy tales but in a modern way, then this show is for you.

There is a lot of darkness and happiness. Every episode is different and we learn something new about the curse.

It has characters from all of the fairy tales we know, Snow White, Hansel and Gretel and etc.

And it stars House actress - Jennifer Morrison, along with other well-known actors Ginnifer Goodwin from Mona Lisa Smile and Big Love.

Also showing on Channel 7.

Keep watching and let me know what you guys think.
